I'm trying to come up with a Middle Eath name, not nessisarily Elvish, but I know most names in Middle Earth are derived from the Elvish language. I'm trying to create a female name for (or meaning) "Eyes like the sea", but can't get a decent translation, atleast one that sound right. If anyone knowlegable of the Elven language (lucky!) can help put together a name that is closest or that would be greatly appreciated. And it doesn't matter which form of ELvish it is, you can do both if you'd like. Thanks!

Re: Another Elvish translation (sort of)
Mon, December 1, 2008 - 12:38 PMIn Sindarian it would be either Aearheneb or Gaeheneb.
Heneb is Sindarian for Eyed, so you do not need the Like or As part. Likely the same in Quenya -

Re: Another Elvish translation (sort of)
Wed, November 19, 2008 - 10:24 AMHere it is - in Quenya:
Eyes Like the Sea: Hendu ve Ear
Eyes of the Sea: HenduEaro
The letter "a" would have an umlot (two dots) over it. The pronunciation would be very similar to Spanish. -

Re: Another Elvish translation (sort of)
Thu, December 4, 2008 - 11:37 AMHi Ciaran - I got the word on "Earohendil" and here it is:
"As for the translation, nope, not correct. That would more loosely mean 'Eye lover of the Sea.' :) I'll check for some more 'poetic' translations for you."
So I hope to be back later :-)
